Grantsville vs. Park City

We accomplished our number goal by making the playoffs with the win versus Ben Lomond.

Our reward for qualifying for the playoffs was the Region 11 champs the Park City Miners, the hottest team in 3A. Leading the state in scoring with two of the best and fastest players in the state. We had are hands full. It was quickly evident that we were not going to be able to slow down there high powered offense. Down 36 to 6 at half we took a different approach. We are going to out score them in the second half. We decided we were not going to punt the ball and we would go for two after every score. We also decide to throw the ball a lot more in the second half to out score Park City. We did just that winning the second half 22 to 21. our 28 points was the second most points allowed by them in two years. However, they scored more than that and eliminated us from the playoffs.

I was very happy with the effort of the team that day and throughout the entire season. I will truly miss this years senior class. I looked forward to working with the underclassmen in preparation for next years season.

Coach Tony Cloward

Grantsville vs. Ben Lomond

The regular season has come and gone. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday we attended summer football camp at Snow College. Now we have honored our seniors at their last home football game and are preparing for our playoff run.

This years senior class has been a special one, they are not large in numbers but big in heart. They have been dedicated, loyal and hard working. It was a great experience to see them be honored and what made the night even better was qualifying for the state playoffs.

We didn't play are best football against Ben Lomond but we found a way to win. It's the most important stat of a game. Grantsville has now qualified for the state playoffs for 7 consecutive seasons dating back to 2001 when we lost to Ogden in the first half of the Three Ring Circus. Now we must focus on what I believe is the top 3A team in the state, Park City. They are averaging 48 points a game with two of the best players in football. Our task is huge but its the playoffs and you never know.

Coach Tony Cloward

Fan Fest says Goodbye
until next year!

Fan Fest wrapped up this year with a special visit from the team. It was emotional as the players made their way through the crowd THANKING the Grantsville Faithful for their tremendous support this year. They also signed autographs for the little one's, as well as favor us with a dance or two. However, when it came to dancing Coach Caf out shined everyone!

The GHS band joined in last team tunnel of the year. Their fabulous music brought everyone to the sidewalk. Even the die-hard tailgaters left their post to give one last HOMETOWN cheer to the team of 2009. Again, emotional.

Thanks to all who've helped to turn Fan Fest into something greater than anyone could have ever imagined!

The pre-game began with a tribute to the Seniors. We want to THANK them for the incredible leaders they've been ...
for setting the example of how to treat an under-classmen ...
for giving the game all they had ...
for making us proud to be a COWBOY!

Grantsville vs. Bear River ... HOMECOMING!

Homecoming activities and events throughout the week were awesome. Nobody throws a Homecoming Party like Grantsville. A special thanks to all those that helped make this a special week for the Players, Student Body and Community.

Sadly we did not live up to our end of the bargain. I often tell the players that the grand finale of homecoming is a victory in the football game. We were unable to put the cherry on top of what was an incredible week. The team came out and had a great opening drive. The black jerseys are always good for a touchdown off of the emotion they generate. Then the rest of the game has to be our own emotion and effort. We were unable to match the emotion and physical-ness of our opponent Bear River. They are an outstanding football team, and I take the responsibility for not having our team more prepared and ready to play.

This year region 11 has a extra playoff spot. By defeating Ben Lomond this Friday night we can earn the additional spot and make it into the state playoffs. This is our team goal each and every year. Somehow or someway we get into the playoffs. We will practice hard and be ready to earn that final playoff spot. Then you just never know.

Thanks for your support,
Coach Tony Cloward

Friday Night Fan Fest
BLACK OUT SPECTACULAR!!

If you weren't one of the hundreds of people at Homecoming Fan Fest you missed a great party!

Everyone was "BLACK IN BLACK" this year thanks to the $2 "Black Out" Homecoming shirts! The cheerleaders helped sell over 1000 of them. We can't ever thank Coach Cloward and Chad Johnson enough for making that happen. The opinion of the Cowboy Faithful is that it should be a tradition every year here in Grantsville!

The tailgates were smokin' as usual. We even had a 30 year class reunion adding to the energy you can only feel at Fan Fest! The dance company served a wonderful dinner as the Hair Hut cut, carved and colored the heads of little ones wanting a "new look" for the big game!

Dillon Hurst brought his fabulous "40 Days Band" down for a Homecoming encore. They bring with them a big following of Grantsville Fans. THANKS Dillon ... thanks 40 Days! You were fabulous, as usual.

If the band didn't draw you, the BLOW UP's probably did. Cargill Salt made a huge donation in order for us to have them. Then Jump'n'Joey's matched that donation and doubled the amount of slides they brought for us. The little kids were thrilled!

The older kids had their own kind of fun with three 12 foot football player to catch every pass they could throw at them. That's what the blow up from Ken Garff and Terry Baird provided. The parking lot was full of "hot air" and plenty of FUN... not to mention the biggest team tunnel in Cowboy history!

Grantsville City Fire Department didn't disappoint with the fabulous fireworks. Nor did the Delaney's as they brought in the game ball on Cowboy Bob's horse. The field never looked better thanks for Jeff Killpack and his hard work. Prizes were flying through the crowd with the many donations we received for our free "Cowboy Gear" drawing.

Half time was incredible as the Cheerleaders and Larietts teamed up with the Band for a spectacular show. The induction of Terry Baird and Byron Anderson into the GHS Hall of Fame was icing on the cake. They are both wonderful men and wonderful supporters of GHS! Congratulations to both of them.

It was hard to bid farewell to such an incredible HOMECOMING week. It was full of so much fun with powder tuff volleyball, powder puff football, queen contests, pep parties and assemblies, dress up days, hall decorating, parades... all the fun that comes with Homecoming at GHS! Not to mention welcoming back the Class of 1990. WOW... what a week!

We especially want to thank THE TEAM...
for giving us somewhere to be on Friday nights...
for giving us a reason to have Fan Fest...
for giving us something to cheer about...

for bringing HOMETOWN PRIDE back to
Grantsville High School!

Come cheer on the boys as they take on Ben Lomond and honor the SENIORS this Friday. Fan Fest will be held as usual, beginning at 5:00! Be sure you don't miss out on the fun or the memories!

Grantsville vs. Judge

Football is a funny game. One team can out play another and lose. This was the situation last week with Judge Memorial. We out gained the Bulldogs in passing yardage, total yardage, number of plays ran, and time of possession. Yet we found ourselves behind 28 to 14 when the clock hit zeros.

It was the most frustrating game for both coaches and players this season. The players as usual played hard and showed a lot of character and heart. A couple of big plays by Judges top players ended up being the difference of the game. We will quickly make corrections and be ready to host our newest rivals from the north, Bear River.

It's Homecoming week, so come be a part of the great tradition of Homecoming at GHS.
