Grantsville vs. Morgan

Any time you play the Trojans, you will have a fight on your hands. Play them at home and it gets even tougher. Morgan was everything we thought they would be. But if a moral victory counts for anything, we have a lot to be proud of. Sure Morgan was bigger, stronger and loaded with seniors, but our young kids didn’t back down from them at all. We displayed a lot of heart and toughness and fought them with everything we had. I appreciated our team’s resistance to being bullied. They fought long and courageously hard tonight. We have to shore-up a few areas – ball control and penalties hurt us. I was pleased with the way we started the game getting a big defensive stop with Lincoln Kelly’s interception. Then our offense drove us to the goal line and Kaleb Killpack punched it in for us! That’s what we are looking for coming out of the blocks and we got it tonight. We have our hands full this week preparing for defending State Champion Juan Diego who beat Morgan last week. We will be at home and ready to play. Thanks for your continued support!
See you in Grantsville,

Grantsville vs. Ben Lomond

Special teams again helped us early with Lincoln Kelley’s kick-off return for a touchdown! I was pleased to see us finish the first half better offensively.  The Scotts played us tough during the first half, and we gave them too many opportunities to be successful, which again reflects on our pregame mental preparation.  After a good scolding at halftime, we came out the second half and played like champions on both sides of the ball scoring 28 unanswered points.  Maybe we need to get after these kids before the game to “flip that mental switch” and get them turned on early!  We will need that in a big way when we travel to Morgan next week.  It’s only going to get a lot tougher for us from here as the season continues.  I would feel much better about where we are right now at mid-season, if I could discover how to motivate these kids to play all four quarters.  I know I’m sounding like a broken record, but we are a very good football team.  I think we could make a significant statement in region and get to the state play-offs if we could just break this mental barrier and put four quarters together on a consistent basis.  If we are going to beat Morgan next week, we better come ready to play the entire game.

See you there,

Grantsville vs. San Juan

I think it is pretty clear why San Juan won the state 2A title last year.  They are the best football team we have played so far.  They were very tough up front and were very physical.  They jumped on us early, as we again started the first half slow.  I thought our defense played much better during the second half but we just couldn’t get anything going offensively.  When two of your leading rusher’s net zero yards, I think that makes a big statement to just how good San Juan’s defense played tonight.  We are going to have to rethink things this week as we start region play next week at Ben Lomond.  We have got to figure out how we can come out stronger the first half and compete in all four quarters.  In our region, we can’t continue to just play the last two quarters and be competitive.

Thanks for your support,
Coach Tony Cloward

Grantsville vs. Millard

I was very concerned about Millard this week, and I believe the Eagles lived up to my apprehension.  Again our defense played well enough to keep us in the game during the first half as our offense continued to struggle out of the gate.  It is a trend that is becoming worrisome.  After I got after them at the break, I think they responded the second half with a better effort.  We ran the ball well but lacked balance with our passing attack and couldn’t get the ball in the end zone when given the opportunities.   I thought Millard came through late in the fourth and just wanted it more than we did.  We will have to take this loss and learn from it as next week won’t be any easier.

Hang with us,
Coach Tony Cloward

Grantsville vs. North Sanpete

North Sanpete posed some problems for us early, but I thought our defense kept us in the game during the first half.  Lincoln Kelley’s big interception fired up our defense which shut out North Sanpete for three quarters.  Offensively, we were sluggish during the first half which was duly noted and addressed in the locker-room at half time.  I thought we played much better the second half and again I think conditioning played a big role.  We started controlling the line of scrimmage better giving our running backs the opportunities they needed to move the chains. If we are controlling the line of scrimmage and running well, we will win football games.

Go Cowboys!
